FiPL Cotswolds: Grants & Funding for Farms in Protected Landscapes

May, 27 2026The Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) fund has now been extended for a further three years and will now run until March 2029. So far the fund has allocated £4.5 million to over 170 projects.
FiPL is available in National Landscapes (formerly AONBs), National Parks and the Broads. The programme funds one‑off projects that:
- Support nature recovery
- Mitigate the impacts of climate change
- Provide opportunities for people to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape and its cultural heritage
- Protect or improve the quality and character of the landscape or place
The scheme is deliberately non‑prescriptive, and projects are judged on a case-by-case basis.
Grants are available of up to £250,000 per project. Funding can support both capital and revenue costs, with up to 100% of costs covered in exceptional cases.
There is no fixed minimum grant size; value for money is assessed based on outcomes rather than scale.

Examples of what has been funded already:
North Cotswolds Owl & Kestrel Box Project
Led by the Gloucestershire Raptor Monitoring Group, this project funded the installation of 175 owl and kestrel nesting boxes across farms in the North Cotswolds, alongside annual monitoring and habitat management advice.
Landscape‑Scale Hedge & Tree Planting Across 23 Farms
FWAG South West planted over 4 km of native hedgerows and 400 trees across 23 farms in Gloucestershire. The initiative focused on strengthening habitat connectivity, enhancing landscape character and supporting nature recovery across multiple holdings.
Resilient Farm Strategy at Bruern Farms, Chipping Norton
Bruern Farms has invested in on‑farm grain processing equipment, a flour mill and a game larder, enabling direct sales from a regenerative farming system.
Accessible Farm Trail & Visitor Hub at Eastleach Downs Organic Farm
FiPL funding supported the creation of an accessible farm trail, car park and visitor hub at Eastleach Downs Organic Farm, designed specifically for people with reduced mobility.
Sainfoin Centre of Regenerative Agriculture at Whittington Lodge Farm
Whittington Lodge Farm were funded to convert an existing barn into a multi‑purpose space for regenerative farming events, training and farm tours, alongside track improvements to improve access.
Oakbank Community Farm
Oakbank Community Farm received funding to build a barn for use by community farm tenants, including space for zero-dig growers, plus better gates for permissive path users and interpretation panels around the farm.
